Vanilla steamer

I’m Elizabeth, and I have a problem with quirky milk-based beverages.

I tackled coffee milk on Monday.  (It’s the official Rhode Island state drink, you know!)

Heat the milk mixture in a sauce pan.

Today, I decided to wow you all with another delightful take on the stuff.  In the campus center café at my college, they make this frightfully delicious flavored frothed milk.  It’s dangerous.

At school, they call them steamers – because it’s steamed milk.  I don’t have a fancy espresso machine so I decided to achieve a delicate froth the old-fashioned way.

Although the café offers a variety of different flavors (hazelnut, maybe cocoa??), I tried vanilla on a cold winter morning and was hooked.

Vanilla Steamer serves 1

  • 1 c. milk of your choice (I used skim here)
  • 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp. granulated sugar
Combine ingredients above.  Heat the mixture in a saucepan on low-medium heat.  Use a whisk to beat the milk until a frothy cap is achieved.  Pour into a mug, cuddle up, and enjoy.
